The Zuli bend focus. They can do this in 2 ways; "Skah" and "Dah," which don't precisely have English translations. Skah is the easier art; it involves imbuing objects with magical energy. For as long as the mage remains concentrated on the object, it will either pull or push the focus of those around it.
The second art is "Dah." This is much more complex, as it involves manipulating the person rather than the object. Technically, if one were to completely master Dah, they would be able to perfectly control minds—however, not only would this require more subtlety and skill than a person could master in ten lifetimes, but also a complete understanding of the person being manipulated. It can only be used on one person at a time, at very close range. The better the mage understands the person, the more effective Dah is.
The three constraints on Zuli magic are distance, size, and conformity.
Because of their magic, Zuli make good merchants, thieves, illusionists, smugglers, assassins, and other trades where diverting and/or attracting attention are useful skills. However, they're normally used as slaves.
