Basic Political Structure
The social and political structure of Acaes is based on patriarchal family units. In rural villages the men and householders of the area meet in council to discuss and create the local municipal law, with a nobleman to act as a mayor of sorts. In turn, these local lords and Houses owe fealty to more powerful lords of the greater cities of the area, who also in turn owe their fealty to the Highlord of one of the three Great Houses, one for each specific geographical region of the nation. These Highlords and the Houses they represent form the Triumvirate Council, the effective ruling body of Acaes. Each Highlord gets a vote on matters of state, as well as a specific national duty that he and his House are charged with overseeing, based on their geographical region.
