Life in the Scumlands
The scumlands are divided into twenty four major tribes, and countless smaller ones living off the main islands. These can range anywhere from a dozen to several hundred people apiece, and most are locked in a constant state of warfare.
Life in the Scumlands is harsh beyond reason. First, they have to deal with the toxic environment- in the Scumlands, even the smallest of wounds can be fatal. Disease and famine kill far more than warfare. When they aren't struggling to find food and shelter, the Scumlanders are fighting off dangerous predators, the horrifying beasts that roam the island in droves. They constantly war over hunting territories and food supplies, just to satisfy their most basic needs. Even when they aren't just trying to survive, they're still locked in a state of total warfare, in part because that's just their nature.
They live their lives by rigid codes or conduct necessary for their survival. The wounded are executed, rather than endanger the tribe. The tribal leader's word is final- you've got a problem, we'd be happy to drown you. The weak and sickly receive food last. If you can't take care of the tribe, the tribe doesn't take care of you. Harsh ideals, sometimes even inhuman, and yet necessary for the survival of the pack.
Because of their harsh lifestyle, the Scumlands produces some of the most vicious, talented, capable warriors in Rota.
